Though symbolized with a bowler hat and a watch chain, their status may have been high but their pay was sometimes lower, even with the efficiency of the enterprise depending on them. *Robert Tressell, (born Robert Noonan, 1870, Dublin), an English house painter, chose the nom-de-plume of Tressell in reference to the trestle table, an important part of his kit as a painter and decorator.
